Macrobiotic diet is one that originated in Japan and has to do with balancing the body through eating balanced foods (yin and yang). Some foods are sweet, cold and more neutral (yin) while others are more spicy, salty and aggressive (yang). Some people who keep a more balanced lifestyle and diet often report minimized symptos to their chronic diseases including depression. Whole grains, especially brown rice should make up 50-60% of the diet; vegetables (and seaweed) 25-30%; beans 5-10%; fish, nuts, seeds, fruits, miso soup 5-20%; soup (made from the aforementioned ingredients) 1-2 cups/day.
