Astragalus is considered most effective at the early stages (shortly after a tick bite) of potential Lyme disease. The herb produces an enhanced immune response to lessen the chance and decrease the severity of the infection. However, you mention you have Lyme disease and have had it -- although asymptomatic -- for years. The herb is not recommended for chronic or long-term Lyme disease because it potentially supports the infection in spreading more rapidly. You may have already read it, but check out FoundHealth's "Lyme Disease and Astragalus" section for more info.
