Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) are prescribed for inflammation and pain. They are referred to as nonsteroidal to distinguish them from steroids which have some similar effects.

Examples of NSAIDs include aspirin, ibuprofen, indomethacin, naproxen, piroxicam, and nabumetone. Some NSAIDs are available over-the-counter while others are prescription only.
