One study done in 2004 concluded that Petasites hybridus root (butterbur root) was significantly more effective in the treatment of migraine than placebo pills when taken at 75mg per dose.1

An additional study found that Bubberbur was as effective as the pharmaceutical drug cetirizine in treating hayfever and had fewer side effects.2

Butterbur (or Petasites Hybridus) is plant part of the daisy family Asteracea and found mostly in the Northern Hemisphere in moist environments.

Butterbur was used by the Native American Indians to treat both headache and inflammation. Today, extracts butterbur extracts can likewise be used in the treatment of headache and possibly inflammation.
