Shared experience with Depression and Tryptophan (5-HTP) 13 years ago

Amino acids changed my life, starting with 5-HTP.
I did a saliva / urine analysis that showed low levels of serotonin and my acupuncturist suggested I take 5-HTP for a while. I took it in combination with Melotonin in a chewable supplement and have to say...I haven't felt significantly down since. I only had to take it for a short period, as amino acids get replenished in the brain. Later, I also noted that I experience a "fog" that I had a hard time focusing and thinking through. It was suggested that I try another amino acid called Phenylalanine and within an hour of taking it - it was like someone had washed the windows. I felt positive, clear and motivated. I do not suffer from severe depression, but I must say I am a big believer in amino acids for mild to moderate mood disorders. A great resource is a book called The Mood Cure by Julia Ross.
