As a physical therapist with over 30 years experience in manual therapy, I would point out that tension headaches are a common trigger for migraine headaches. As people we are rarely ambidextrous, and thus stress-related tensions to the neck will tend to create muscle torque on the spine at the base of the skull that restricts cranial circulation and irritates rich nerve networks innervating and exiting the base of the skull. Craniosacral, osteopathic treatment methods have a huge potential to improve postural alignment, decrease tension headache triggers to migraines. Such therapy goes far towards the positive physical treatment of headache symptoms.
