I have ME/CFS, and have tried chocolate (organic cacao powder). Although I did feel a slight reduction in fatigue, I also felt that it did not seem to address the root cause of whatever is causing the horrible symptoms; the cacao powder did allow me to stay out of bed a little longer however (maybe by a couple of hours or so).

... (more)Some gentle stretching helped in reducing the horrible stiffness.
I was prescribed Effexor XR. It reduced some of the stressful feelings, but it did NOT do anything at all for the pain or fatigue. In fact, it caused a weight gain of about 25 pounds within a year, as well as severe constipation. It was highly addictive, and I had to keep increasing the dose to get the same minimal effect until I was at almost the highest prescribed dose, all within a year. I had to open the capsule and reduce my daily dose grain by grain to wean myself off of it. AVOID antidepressants if you can, although your doctor may try to push them on you...

... (more)I took Advil when I got severe headaches, and it helped within 20 minutes. Tylenol was not effective.
Licorice was a lifesaver for me. It helped with low blood pressure, pain, breathing, fatigue, and allowed me to actually get out of bed and go to work.
I got severe headaches after taking ginseng, but it may be useful for others. I used ashwagandha instead, and that helped.
Acetaminophen did not help me at all.
I found it reduces my tiredness, makes me more alert, improves my memory-- almost like a cup of coffee without the jitteriness. It also helped with some pre-menopausal symptoms. However, if the dose is too high, I can get some swelling in my legs due to water retention. I've found it best to stop taking it for a week or so after three weeks of taking it. I have not experienced any withdrawal symptoms even if I stop taking it for a couple of months, although the benefits of taking it begin to fade away, as would be expected.

... (more)Ginko biloba causes severe migraines in me. I switched to Brahmi (Bacopa monnieri) which works really well in improving my memory.
It caused the "die off" effect when I first started taking it, but I continued on a lower dose, and after a few weeks, it cleared up some infections I had (probably viral). I feel more alert and energetic. When I was taking it regularly, I seemed to be resistant to a really vicious stomach flu going around in the family-- I just got very a very mild stomach discomfort that went away within an hour or so after taking a dose of the olive leaf.

... (more)Licorice improved symptoms arising from low adrenal gland function: extreme fatigue, respiratory and immune issues, easy bruising, low blood pressure.
