An important part of managing hepatitis is making sure that the liver does not endure any additional damage. Even some natural remedies such as Ayurvedic herbs could potentially be harmful to the liver. Be sure to consult with your doctor about your use of any medicines (over-the-counter and prescription) and supplements. Choose an Ayurvedic practitioner who is well trained and acquires his or her herbs from a high-quality source.
For more information, see the Safety section of the Ayurveda article.
Ayurvedic practitioners support their patients with a combination of herbs, lifestyle modifications (including diet), and a variety of other methods. In the United States, there is no widely accepted licensure for the practice of Ayurvedic medicine. Graduates of schools such as the following are generally regarded as well-qualified: The Ayurvedic Institute, California College of Ayurveda, and the American Institute of Vedic Studies.

LiverCare (Liv.52) is designed for liver conditions and may help treat both acute and chronic cases of hepatitis.
LiverCare, also known as Liv.52, is an Ayurvedic combination therapy that contains Capparis spinosa (caper bush), Cichorium intybus (chicory), Solanum nigrum (black nightshade), Terminalia arjuna (arjun), Cassia occidentalis (fedegoso), Achillea millefolium (yarrow), and Tamarix gallica (French tamarisk). It has shown promise for treating both acute and chronic hepatitis in both adults and children.
In a 5-week, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of 30 children with hepatitis A, use of this combination formula apparently improved the rate of recovery as compared to placebo.45 Benefits were also seen in a 6-week study of 34 people with acute hepatitis.46 A third double-blind, placebo-controlled study evaluated the effectiveness of this combination in the treatment of a variety of liver conditions, including chronic and acute hepatitis, and found some evidence of benefit.47
