“Strength does not come from physical capacity. It comes from an indomitable will.”

-  Mahatma Gandhi

The world will constantly tell you what you can’t do. It will tell you you’re not good enough.  It will tell you you’re not strong enough.  It will tell you, you can’t achieve what you want.  This is a universal rule of life, excepted only sometimes by loving family and friends.

But here’s the key, the golden rule of willpower:  Belief comes before achievement.

If people did not believe they could achieve, would Olympic records get broken year after year?  Would we have launched people into space on rocket ships?  Would we have any of the scientific, political or social achievements we all enjoy today, that 500 years ago where unimaginable?  These things happened because people stood up in the face of “you can’t do that,” turned a cheek, and said, “yes I can!”

They are not alone.  You can do it too!

When it comes to serious health challenges, things are no different.  The doctors will cite you statistics, “95% of the people who have this never recover.”  The internet will give you all of the scary stories.  The way you feel, or the negative setbacks of your challenge will make you think you cannot beat or overcome it.

BUT THIS IS NOT TRUE!

I know it because I watched my wife stare down a very difficult battle with late stage cancer where the statistics were bleak and many setbacks, bad days, and challenges could have left her feeling grim.  Yet she believed in herself and her ability to win, and I can proudly say she has had cancer-free scans now for over four years!

These experiences inspired me to share our story and the knowledge we gained about fighting and beating melanoma and cancer on FoundHealth (http://www.foundhealth.com/melanoma/treatment).  Unquestionably, willpower and mind over matter are a huge part of this, which is why I also wrote about all of the ways you can keep your mind strong to endure and prevail in a fight against cancer here (http://www.foundhealth.com/melanoma/mind) and (http://www.foundhealth.com/melanoma/melanoma-and-positive-attitude-and-thinking).

Even if you don’t check out those pages, please remember this:  It is easier to weaken when the world says you can’t do something if you believe it first yourself.    But now you know that belief comes before achievement.  So believe in yourself and your ability to heal, and you will be well on your way.

As Henry Ford said,

“If you think you can do it, or you think you can’t do it, You are right.”
